"Mitarepo" is a series that introduces what can be done using various products with the concept of "I tried doing this!" From the wide range of product categories handled by System Create, we deliver useful information each time. The Form 4, a light-curing printer praised for its ability to create delicate shapes easily, has added the ceramic material "Alumina 4N" to its lineup! Ceramic parts have unique advantages such as heat resistance, high hardness, and chemical resistance. Can they be shaped as desired using 3D printing, which is not a mainstream manufacturing method? This time, we conducted test prints and examined the finish of the resulting models! "Can I print using the usual procedures?" "How will it turn out even though it's not plastic?" We will explain these points of interest, along with images of the actual printed models, covering the entire process from data creation to model removal. Digital Metal's molding material - tool steel (equivalent to SKD11)

The first tool steel has been introduced by Digital Metal.

DM D2 is a material developed for the Digital Metal binder jetting metal additive manufacturing system, based on D2 tool steel (equivalent to JIS SKD11). D2 tool steel, equivalent to SKD11, is a material that offers excellent wear resistance and appropriate toughness while having superior hardenability, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. It is used in cutting and deformation tools such as shear cutters, punches, dies, and stamping tools. This material is stable during heat treatment processes, allowing for the adjustment of final properties through various heat treatments after sintering.

A versatile tool steel has been introduced by Digital Metal.

DM H13, equivalent to JIS SKD61, is a hot work tool steel that maintains strength and hardness even at high temperatures and shows excellent resistance to thermal fatigue. H13 is commonly used in forming tools such as extrusion dies and injection molding molds as a wear-resistant metal. With the addition of DM H13 to the lineup, we can solve the necessary components for expanding demanding applications on demand. The high precision of Digital Metal allows for the fabrication of very complex and detailed H13 parts, and properties can be adjusted to meet the specific requirements of applications through post-sintering heat treatment.

DM 247 is a nickel-based superalloy for Digital Metal, with excellent high-temperature properties.

DM 247 is a nickel-based superalloy developed for the Binder Jet 3D printer Digital Metal, possessing high-temperature characteristics equivalent to the commercially available MAR M247 (TM). It is used in high-temperature and high-stress environments such as aerospace, gas turbines, exhaust and intake systems, and impellers. This material has an inherent resistance to oxidation and, when processed under the correct conditions, exhibits excellent high-temperature strength and creep resistance. It excels in the reproducibility of sintered bodies, surface quality, and other properties, which can be further improved through secondary processing.
